Superintendent’s Page Welcome

Hello fellow Moss Pirates and Lady Pirates! It is with great honor that I step into the position of Superintendent at Moss Public School. It has been a lifelong goal of mine to one day become a Superintendent and I would like to thank my wife and kids, extended family, friends, the Moss Board of Education and the Moss community for being supportive of me as I move into this new role of the Superintendency.

I am originally from Konawa, Oklahoma and attended East Central University where I earned my Bachelor's (English Teacher Certification) and Master's Degrees (Secondary School Principal). I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Stevy, for 15 years this summer. We have three children, Jaxon (14), Cade (11) and Sophie (6) who love being Moss Pirates! We raise Beefmaster cattle and raise them to show as well. All of our kids are active in differing areas of the school and one, some or all of us will be at most every event that we have. It is awesome being a Pirate!!

As a financial planner and budgeter, I want folks to know that I consider myself to be a fiscal conservative. I will not be making any flamboyant purchases with district dollars and will focus on doing all that we can to address the various needs within the system. Needs of the academic classroom will most always take precedent in my mind and the physical plant will run a close second to those needs. More than anything, I want our students to have all the tools that we can possibly give them to be successful in the classroom and to feel as safe and comfortable as they can while they attend school.

To give everyone some insight into my way of thinking when it comes to school, always know that I am an advocate for children. That is why I chose education as my profession. I believe in kids and I believe in helping kids become the best they can possibly be so that they may have the tools available to them to make a difference in the world. I want your children to walk out on graduation night knowing that they are prepared for what awaits them whether that be a college / university, trade school, vo-tech or the workforce. Always, always know that the decisions that I make may not always be the ones that you totally agree with; they may not be the ones that are the most "popular" at the time; they may not be the ones that are the "flashiest"; but know that all of the decisions will ALWAYS be grounded in the belief that we do what's best for kids, each and every day, no matter what.

Books, student desks and some technology will be some of the need areas we will look to address and we will be tackling some drainage issues at the elementary building as well. A new classroom has already been built within the elementary building this summer and the library moved out to the safe room. This has not adversely affected the number of folks we can get into the safe room and all of our students will still be able to fit. A classroom extension was also made and we now look forward to being able to offer more servicees to our youngest demographic of special learners in our elementary in the LEAP Room (Learners Excelling and Progressing). Locks and door maintenance are being completed as well as new security monitors throughout the school. Our teachers have brand new copiers to use throughout the district and we will be adding Cross Country and Track to our Athletic Programs in the 2017-2018 school year.

All of these things and more will improve and enhance the educational program at Moss exponentially. We have turned the corner as far as finances go from where we were just a few short years ago. We will end FY 2017 with over $1 million in general fund carryover. Couple that with the added oil and gas drilling that has taken off as of late throughout our district boundaries, we look to be headed in positive direction at this time. I want the community to know that I am and will be doing my level best to take care of the issues that our budget will allow for each year. We want to balance having a healthy carryover for the school and its students versus taking care of the needs that the students and the school itself has. With the current political climate at the State Capitol, it is both disheartening and frustrating that we cannot rely on the money we receive from State Aid each year to balance our budget. One time monies and quick fixes at the last minute of the session only adds to the stress all schools across the State face. While the local dollars look to be good at this time for us, should they dwindle at all, we will need to have a good amount of money in reserve so that we can absorb the undoubted cuts to funding that we will AND have received year after year after year.

Please feel free to come by the office and chat with me about anything school related any time. I would ask that you call ahead just to make sure that I will be available when you come (...I hate to miss people when they come by to visit...). The life of a school administrator is wildly busy, so give us a call and let us know you plan to visit!

Right now we are going through a web site change. We are members of the Cooperative Council of Oklahoma School Administrators (CCOSA) and have partnered with SOCS web site services to host our web site. Soon we will have an app that you may get in your smartphone's app store and we will push notifications and announcements to you through the app. Please feel free to browse around and see as much of the site as you can. It is a working project, so check back often as we will be updating the page with teacher records and files, student life photos, sports and academic pages for classes and students, lunch menus and much, much more. Also, be sure to check us out on Social Media and follow the Moss Public School page, any of your child's teachers if they have created pages / groups for their particular classes, the Moss Baseball Page, and don't forget to join the Moss PTO page on Facebook to keep up with the great things going on at Moss Public School!
